Description
The house is located in Astipalea – Dodecannes – directly in the old village close to the port, on the hill going up to the castle. From the house you have the view on the sea, the east coast of Astypalea and the view to the castle (a 15th century installation). The island of Astypalea is served by ferry from Athens as well as by plane. The island is not yet a mass tourist target and no large hotels are present. Only one road is paved and the life on the island is still a typical one.
The property, a traditional large old house with ca. 300 m. of garden, has been in 2001 completely reconstructed, enlarged and provided with new state of the art electrical equipment and water plumbing + heating.
The building has two floors over the road (as ruled by the law) and a third one recuperated on the garden side, all in all the living surface is more than 250 sq m. On the ground floor it has been recovered the old stone basement and walls (50-60 cm large) and now there are a tearoom in oriental style, a large dining room, a side smoking room and a service room with kitchen and cellar. Pieces of furniture are original Tuscany old ones.
On the first floor there are: a large terrace (10 x 3,5 m.), dining room, main and secondary entrance, a sitting room, the main kitchen and a fully equipped bathroom. At this level the pieces of furniture are authentic old French and Venetian ones. Two separated stairs give access to the second floor where you can find three bedrooms, everyone with its own bathroom and terrace. The master bedroom and relevant bathroom are both very large (all in all ca 30/35 square meter).
The garden is distributed on three levels with fruit trees and a beautiful palm. A patio with washbowl, large open grill and traditional Greece stone oven does make the eating in the garden easy and pleasant. Another entrance to the house from the lower level of the garden is only 100 m. far away from the sea side.
The house is not properly a Villa, but for the standard of the island is a luxury one and has been designed and reconstructed with the assistance of a professional architect. This past summer the house was published on a Greek magazine specialised for editing the most beautiful houses and residences on the Greek islands.
