In 1891 the couple moved into their newly completed high Queen Anne mansion on West Main Street next door to Emma?s brother, Orlo and Mirabel Folger Hamlin's mansion. The spectacular Hyde-Murphy woodwork includes a golden oak quarter sawn dining room and front staircase and black Cherry Music Room and Front Parlor. The waitstaff used the back staircase and family and their many guests used the front, grand staircase. The carriage house, located to the rear of the estate, originally housed the McCandless' Pierce Arrows and the McCandless chauffeur. Smethport is located on historic & scenic US.
