Description
This large apartment tower has large plazas on 58th and 57th Streets and is truly a midblock building that affords many of its residents more open views in this congested neighborhood.

The 57th Street plaza is given over to retail and the building's main entrance on 58th Street has its own driveway. Neither plaza contributes significantly to the urban streetscape, but zoning regulations at the time of its construction permitted the developer to erect a taller building and many apartments have impressive views of Central Park one block to the north.

The block is pretty impressive as it is also shared by the Plaza and Park Lane Hotels and the sleek, elegant, sloping skyscraper at 9 West 57th Street whose broad plaza on 58th Street has a great and large Picasso bronze sculpture.

The 34-story building has a garage and many balconies, but is rather lackluster in appearance. It was erected in 1969 and converted to a condominium in 1984. The balconies are rather unusual as their sides are concave curves, a nice touch.
